## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

A WITNESS STATED THAT HE SPOTTED THE AIRCRAFT ON A BASE LEG FOR RUNWAY 28. THE WINDS WERE GUSTING OUT OF THE SOUTHWEST 10 TO 20 KNOTS FROM AROUND 220°. THE WITNESS STATED THAT IT LOOKED LIKE THE PLANE CONTINUED NORTH BEYOND THE CENTER-LINE FOR RUNWAY 28 AND WAS DECENDING. AT THIS POINT THE PLANE ATTEMPTED TO EXECUTE A 45 TO 60 DEGREE LEFT TURN TO FINAL BUT AS SOON AS THE PLANE ENTERED THE TURN, IT IMMEDIATELY NOSE-DIVE DOWNWARD AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. ANOTHER WITNESS STATED THAT A TWIN ENGINE CESSNA WAS DEPARTING RUNWAY 28 AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR10LA297](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR10LA297), Jun 17, 2010: Bernhard Vans RV8 (N901X), Truckee, CA, substantial damage, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airplane control during a steep turn to final approach, which resulted in an inadvertent aerodynamic stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
