## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JUNE 20, 2010 AT APPROXIMATELY 20:05 LOCAL TIME, THE PILOT OF N47PD, A PULSAR III EXPERIMENTAL/AMATEUR BUILT AIRCRAFT, HAD FINISHED CONDUCTING A FLIGHT OPERATION NEAR CARMI, ILLINOIS WITH THREE (3) OTHER AIRCRAFT. THE FOUR AIRCRAFT HAD BEEN PRACTICING FORMATION FLIGHT AND HAD ENTERED THE TRAFFIC PATTERN FOR RUNWAY 18 AT CARMI FOR THE PURPOSE OF SEPARATING FROM THE FORMATION AND LANDING IN A TRAILING CONFIGURATION. N47PD WAS THE THIRD AIRCRAFT IN LINE TO LAND ON RUNWAY 18.THE PILOT OF THE NUMBER FOUR AIRCRAFT IN THE FORMATION, TRAILING APPROXIMATELY ¼ MILE BEHIND N47PD, WAS EYEWITNESS TO THE FOLLOWING EVENT. THE NUMBER FOUR PILOT OBSERVED N47PD TO APPEAR TO BE OVERTAKING THE NUMBER TWO AIRCRAFT AS THAT AIRCRAFT HAD ALREADY TOUCHED DOWN ON THE RUNWAY AND WAS SLOWING TO EXIT THE RUNWAY AT A MIDFIELD TAXIWAY. N47PD SUBSEQUENTLY TOUCHED DOWN BRIEFLY ON RUNWAY 18 AND THE PILOT APPARENTLY ATTEMPTED TO CONDUCT A GO-AROUND MANEUVER. AS A RESULT, N47PD LIFTED ABRUPTLY INTO THE AIR IN A HIGHER THAN USUAL AIRCRAFT ATTITUDE, AS OBSERVED BY THE NUMBER FOUR PILOT BEHIND, AND ARCING IN A LEFT TURN TO THE EAST OF THE RUNWAY WHERE IT IMPACTED THE TERRAIN APPROXIMATELY 300 FEET EAST OF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN10LA334](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN10LA334), Jun 21, 2010: Drone Paul E Pulsar III (N47PD), Carmi, IL, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed after an aborted landing, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall and impact with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
