## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ENGINE STARTED RUNNING ROUGH AND GOT WORSE WHEN CARB HEAT WAS SELECTED. PILOT WAS FORCED TO LAND AT THE FIRST AVAILABLE CLEARING 5 MILES WEST OF PAKN AIRPORT. AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE FUSELAGE, WINGS, ENGINE MOUNTS, AND PROPELLER. THERE WERE NO REPORTED INJURIES TO THE THREE PASSENGERS ON-BOARD AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC10LA061](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC10LA061), Jul 15, 2010: Piper PA-14 (N5126H), King Salmon, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to use continuous carburetor heat while operating in carburetor icing conditions, resulting in carburetor ice and subsequent partial loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
