## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PIC ON HIS TAKEOFF ROLL ENCOUNTERED A SOFT SPOT ON THE RUNWAY. THIS RETARDED HIS TAKEOFF SPEED AND ALREADY PASSING HIS NO GO POINT THE PIC ELECTED TO CONTINUE HIS TAKEOFF KNOWING THAT AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY WAS A DROP OFF AND AT THE BOTTOM WERE NUMEROUS STUMPS WHICH WOULD CAUSE EXTREME DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND SERIOUS INJURY TO HIMSELF AND HIS PASSENGER. PAST THE DROPOFF WAS A RISE IN TERRAIN AND A FLAT SPOT TO HIT WHICH THE PIC FELT WAS A MUCH BETTER ALTERNATIVE IF HE WAS UNABLE TO COMPLETE A SUCCESSFUL TAKEOFF WHICH IS WHAT HAPPENED. ALTHOUGH MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT OCCURED NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. A 44709 REEXAMINATION WILL BE ADMINISTERED

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC10CA063](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC10CA063), Jul 18, 2010: Cessna 172P (N63022), New Stuyahok, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's selection of unsuitable terrain for takeoff, resulting in a collision with trees.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
