## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER TAKEOFF FROM A SHORT RUNWAY (2,000 FEET PAVED AND 400 FEET GRASS AREA PRIOR TO PAVED PORTION) UNDER HOT TEMPERATURE 37 DEGREES CELSIUS, DENSITY ALTITUDE OF 4,000 FEET AND AT OR CLOSE TO MAXIMUM GROSS WEIGHT, THE PILOT COULD NOT GET THE AIRPLANE TO GAIN ALTITUDE ON CLIMB OUT. PILOT MANEUVERED TO AVOID TREES AND A POWER LINE POLE. AIRPLANE MADE A FORCED LANDING IN A CORN FIELD BEFORE STRIKING SEVERAL FENCES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA10LA377](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA10LA377), Jul 24, 2010: Cessna 172N (N3480E), Waynesboro, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to follow the short-field takeoff procedures published in the Pilot's Operating Handbook.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
