## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS RETURNING TO BASE FROM A LESSON THAT INCLUDED TAKEOFFS AND LANDINGS AT BRIDGEPORT'S SIKORSKY MEMORIAL AIRPORT (KBDR) IN CONNECTICUT. THE STUDENT PILOT WAS PREPARING FOR A LANDING RUNWAY 29 AT WESTCHESTER COUNTY AIRPORT IN WHITE PLAINS, NY. THE INSTRUCTOR DECIDED TO TAKE THE CONTROLS ON SHORT FINAL BECAUSE THE AIRCRAFT APPEARED TO BE ON A LOWER THAN NORMAL APPROACH AND WOULD LAND ON THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD OF RUNWAY 29. THE INSTRUCTOR CORRECTED THE SITUATION BY ADDING POWER AND PITCHING UP. THE INSTRUCTOR THEN TOLD THE STUDENT TO TAKE CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE STUDENT TOOK THE CONTROLS, PULLED BACK ON THE THROTTLE AND BOUNCED HARD ON THE NOSE. THE INSTRUCTOR TOOK OVER, PERFORMED A GO-AROUND AND LANDED ON RUNWAY 34 AT WHITE PLAINS WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE AIRCRAFT WAS TAXIED BACK TO THE RAMP WHERE THE DAMAGE WAS DISCOVERED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA10CA398](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA10CA398), Jul 24, 2010: Cessna 172 (N1166W), White Plains, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's improper landing flare and the flight instructor's delayed remedial action resulting in a bounced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
