## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON SATURDAY JULY 24, 2010, A RENTED CESSNA 172P BELONGING TO MIRACLE STRIP AVIATION TOOK OFF FROM COLEMAN KELLY FIELD IN DESTIN, FLORIDA BOUND FOR ORLANDO. WHILE CLIMBING OUT THROUGH 3800FT, THE ENGINE LOST POWER. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, ENGINE RPM DROPPED FROM 2300 TO 1000 AND IT WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THROTTLE INPUTS. HE IMMEDIATELY SLOWED TO BEST GLIDE SPEED, 65KTS, AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE ENGINE. CYCLING THE THROTTLE, SWITCHING FUEL TANKS AND SWITCHING MAGNETOS BROUGHT NO RESPONSE. WITH HIS GPS INDICATING 12 MILES TO THE NEAREST AIRPORT AND ALTITUDE DROPPING RAPIDLY, HE SET UP FOR AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON THE 17TH FAIRWAY OF THE SHARKS TOOTH GOLF COURSE IN PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL. THE AIRPLANE PASSED JUST OVER THE 70-80 FOOT TREES SOUTH OF THE GREEN AND TOUCHED DOWN APPROXIMATELY HALF WAY DOWN THE 1500 FT FAIRWAY. WITH FULL FLAPS AND A WIND-MILLING PROPELLER, THEY SLID TO A STOP IN LIGHT BRUSH JUST OFF THE NORTH END OF THE FAIRWAY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE OCCUPANTS AND NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE. MIRACLE STRIP AVIATION'S MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL INSPECTED THE AIRCRAFT AND PERFORMED LOW AND HIGH POWER ENGINE RUNS ON MONDAY JULY 26, 2010. AFTER FINDING NOTHING WRONG, THE AIRPLANE TOOK OFF FROM THE FAIRWAY AND FLEW BACK TO DESTIN.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
