## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE DEPARTING A OFFSHORE PLATFORM IN THE GULF OF MEXICO JUST AFTER TAKEOFF, THE PILOT REPORTED HEARING THE LOW ROTOR RPM ALARM AND OBSERVED THE LOW ROTOR WARNING LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED. HE REDUCED THE COLLECTIVE AND ASSURING THE THROTTLE WAS IN THE FULL ON POSITION. THE PILOT DETERMINED FURTHER FLIGHT WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE, LEVELED THE AIRCRAFT AND INITIATED AN AUTO-ROTATION AND AT THE SAME TIME ALERTED THE PASSENGERS, ACTIVATED THE FLOAT SYSTEM AND COMPLETED THE WATER LANDING. AFTER EXECUTING THE LANDING IN THE WATER, THE AIRCRAFT WAS EVACUATED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT ONTO THE LIFE RAFT. THE PILOT AND PASSENGERS REPORTED RECEIVING NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN10IA438](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN10IA438), Jul 26, 2010: Bell 206 (N317RL), Gulf of Mexico, LA, incident, minor damage. Probable cause: The loss of main rotor rpm during takeoff for reasons that could not be determined because postaccident examination of the airframe and engine did not reveal any anomalies.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
