## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE PERFORMING AN ANNUAL INSPECTION ON CESSNA 172, N13013, MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL DISCOVERED THAT THE AIRCRAFT'S ENGINE FIREWALL, FLOORBOARDS AND UPPER WING SKIN HAD DAMAGE CONSISTENT WITH A HARD LANDING. AFTER BECOMING AWARE OF THE DAMAGE, THE OWNER/OPERATOR (FLYING CLUB) NOTIFIED THE FSDO. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION AND ADMISSION FROM THE PILOT, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT ON JULY 31, 2010, THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED THE DAMAGE DURING A HARD LANDING AT NEWTON CITY COUNTY AIRPORT (EWK). THE PRIVATE PILOT WAS CONDUCTING THE (PLEASURE) FLIGHT UNDER PART 91 DURING VFR CONDITIONS AND CALM WINDS WITH ONE PASSENGER ON BOARD. THE AIRCRAFT HAD SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AND THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURES (BACK SPRAIN).

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11CA018](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11CA018), Aug 1, 2010: Cessna 172M (N13013), Newton, KS, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate flare, which resulted in a hard landing.
