## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 1, 2010, THE PILOT OF A PIPER PA-32R-301T AIRCRAFT, N4184X, REPORTED AN INCIDENT TO THE NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION AND SAFETY BOARD (NTSB) THAT THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED A TOTAL LOSS OF AILERON CONTROL PRIOR TO LANDING AT THE MOUNT PLEASANT MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (OSA), MOUNT PLEASANT, TEXAS. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED FROM GILMER MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (JXI), IN GILMORE, TEXAS AND THE PLANNED DESTINATION WAS OSA. THE PILOT WAS THE ONLY OCCUPANT OF THE AIRCRAFT AND THE FLIGHT WAS CONDUCTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH 14 CFR PART 91 UNDER VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS. THE AIRCRAFT WAS REPORTED BY THE PILOT TO BE IN LEVEL FLIGHT AT 2,000 MEAN SEA LEVEL WHEN IT ENTERED AN UNCOMMANDED LEFT ROLL. HE RECOVERED FROM THE UNCOMMANDED ROLL BY DISENGAGING THE AUTOPILOT AND BY USING RUDDER AND ELEVATOR INPUTS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE FLIGHT AND TO SAFELY LAND THE AIRCRAFT. THERE WERE NO REPORTED INJURIES OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AS A RESULT OF THE INCIDENT. POST-FLIGHT EXAMINATION OF THE AILERON SYSTEM BY THE PILOT REVEALED THAT AILERON INPUTS HAD NO AFFECT ON AILERON MOVEMENT. FURTHER INSPECTION BY THE PILOT REVEALED THAT THE RIGHT AILERON CABLE WAS BROKEN AND A CABLE PULLEY WOULD NOT ROTATE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN10IA453](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN10IA453), Aug 1, 2010: Piper PA-32R-301T (N4184X), Mount Pleasant, TX, incident, no damage. Probable cause: The failure of an aileron control cable due to a seized idler pulley bearing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
