## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT WAS ON A LOCAL GLIDER FLIGHT AND LAUNCHED VIA AN AIRCRAFT TOW. THE PILOT STATED IN HIS INTERVIEW THAT HE CHECKED THE WEATHER VIA THE COMPUTER AND WITH OTHER LOCAL PERSONNEL AT THE FIELD. WINDS WERE FROM THE SOUTH. THE PILOT RELEASED DOWNWIND OF THE AIRPORT (NORTH OF THE AIRPORT) AT APPX. 3000 AGL, CIRCLED IN SEARCH OF LIFT, AND AT APPX. 2000 FEET HEADED BACK TOWARDS THE AIRPORT. WINDS WERE STRONGER THAN ANTICIPATED AND THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH ALTITUDE TO RETURN TO THE FIELD. ON THE SUBSEQUENT LAND OUT, THE RIGHT WING HIT A MESQUITE BUSH THAT CAUSED THE 45 DEGREE GROUND LOOP. DURING THE GROUND LOOP, THE LEFT WING THEN HIT A MESQUITE BUSH.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR10CA389](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR10CA389), Aug 6, 2010: Let L 33 Solo (N315BA), Adelanto, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inability to make it to the airport as a result of his inadequate planning for the gusting headwinds.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
