## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

MR FADEL WAS AN APPLICANT TAKING A PRACTICIAL TEST FOR HIS COMMERCIAL MULTIENGINE INSTRUMENT AIRPLANE CERTIFICATE. WHEN ON A SHORT FIELD APPROACH, WHICH WAS HIS TASK FROM THE EXAMINER, HE HIT THE RUNWAY HARD. MR FADEL STATED THAT HE LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT WHEN IT STARTED TO FALL FROM THE SKY ABOUT 50 FEET FROM THE RUNWAY SURFACE. HE ALSO STATED THAT HE ONLY CONFIGURED THE AIRPLANE WITH TWO NOTCHES OF FLAPS FOR THE LANDING. THE CONFIGURATION FOR THE AIRCRAFT IS THREE NOTCHES OF FLAPS WHEN PERFORMING A SHORT FIELD LANDING. HE STATED THAT AS THE AIRCRAFT HIT THE RUNWAY HARD HE ADDED FULL POWER TO PERFORM A GO AROUND WHICH IS WHAT THE EXAMINER PROMPTED HIM TO DO. THE AIRCRAFT INITIATED AND COMPLETED A GO AROUND. AFTER MAKING SURE THE AIRCRAFT SEEMED TO THEM TO BE OK, THEY PROCEEDED TO LAND. AFTER LANDING IT WAS REALIZED THAT THE GEAR HAD DAMAGE SO THE PILOT STOPPED THE AIRCRAFT AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND THEN CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
