## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALY DAMAGED WHEN IT IMPACTED TREES AND TERRAIN SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF FROM RUNWAY 32 AT ORANGE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (ORE), ORANGE, MA ENROUTE TO HANCOCK COUNTY - BAR HARBOR AIRPORT (BHB) BAR HARBOR, MAINE. THE WRECKAGE PATH WAS ORIENTED APPROXIMATELY 60 DEGREES MAGNETIC AND APPROXIMATELY 285 FEET IN LENGTH. THE TWO CERTIFICATED PILOTS ON BOARD WERE FATALLY INJURED. NIGHT VISUAL METEORLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AND NO FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED FOR THE FLIGHT. THE MAINTENANCE RECORDS HAVE NOT YET BEEN OBTAINED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA10FA414](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA10FA414), Aug 11, 2010: Cessna 172 (N21363), Orange, MA, substantial damage, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilots did not maintain control of the airplane during a flight in dark night conditions due to spatial disorientation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
