AIRCRAFT N9761L DEPARTED AGUILA, AZ 0700 HEADING WEST TO BOUSE, AZ. THE PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE ON A SIGHT SEEING TRIP AND FLEW OVER AN INTAGLIO KNOWN AS THE FISHERMAN, THEN PROCEEDED EAST TO THE WAYSIDE INN. AT APPROXIMATELY 0815, THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN ON THE PRIVATE DIRT STRIP AT THE WAYSIDE INN TO THE VERY RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY CENTERLINE. THE AIRCRAFT TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY 1500 FEET THROUGH THE DESERT, PARALLEL TO THE RUNWAY, STRIKING BRUSH AND CACTI. AT APPROXIMATELY 1200 FEET INTO THE DESERT THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK AND DESTROYED A WIND SOCK POLE WITH THE PROPELLER. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE PULLED BACK THE POWER AFTER STRIKING THE POLE. AS THE AIRCRAFT'S NOSE GEAR SETTLED TO THE GROUND, IT BROKE LOOSE AND THE AIRCRAFT'S PROPELLER STUCK THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT SLID ON ITS NOSE FOR APPROXIMATELY ANOTHER 150 FEET BEFORE COMING TO A STOP IN THE DESERT 50 FEET WEST OF THE END OF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR10CA400](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR10CA400), Aug 13, 2010: Beech C23 (N9761L), Wenden, AZ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate bounced landing recovery and failure to maintain directional control during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System.
