## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WIND AT THE TIME WAS 280@5 TO 15 KT. PILOT STATED HE APPROACHED RUNWAY 25 AND CROSSED THE THRESHOLD AT 75 KIAS WHICH RESULTED IN A TOUCHDOWN AT APPROXIMATELY THE 2000 FOOT POINT ON A 4200 FOOT LONG RUNWAY. AT THIS POINT THE RUNWAY BEGINS TO SLOPE DOWN. THE PILOT NOTICED THE WIND SOCK AS INDICATING CALM WINDS AT THIS TIME. THIS MADE HIM DECIDE TO CONTINUE THE ROLLOUT RATHER THAN ATTEMPT A GO AROUND. HE THEN REALIZED THAT HE WAS AT APPROXIMATELY 700 FEET REMAINING POSITION AND APPLIED HEAVY BRAKING. HE ESTIMATED A POTENTIAL RUNWAY OVERRUN AND ATTEMPTED A 180 DEGREE LEFT TURN ONTO THE TAXIWAY. SINCE THE SPEED WAS STILL FAIRLY HIGH HE WENT OVER THE EMBANKMENT AND FLIPPED THE AIRCRAFT OVER ON ITS BACK. THERE WAS NO FIRE OR FUEL SPILL. HE AND HIS PASSENGER EXITED THE AIRCRAFT THROUGH THE BROKEN CANOPY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR10CA404](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR10CA404), Aug 14, 2010: Carr Bryan Vans RV-6A (N677DS), Grass Valley, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to attain a proper touchdown point that resulted in an overrun of the runway and nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
