## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AT ABOUT 0930 LOCAL TIME MR. DANIELS A STUDENT PILOT AND OWNER WAS TAKING FLIGHT INSTRUCTION FROM MR. TUTTLE , A CERTIFIED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR. THEY WERE DOING SOME GROUND REFERENCE MANEUVERING AT ABOUT 3000 FEET AGL SOUTH OF THE MARYSVILLE AIRPORT (MYV). DURING THIS MANEUVERING THE ENGINE QUIT. THEY WERE ABLE TO MAKE A SUCCESSFUL EMERGENCY LANDING IN A PASTURE APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES SOUTH OF THE MARYSVILLE AIRPORT. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT OR PROPERTY. AFTER THE LANDING THE PILOT EVALUATED THE SITUATION AND FOUND THEY HAD RUN OUT OF FUEL. WHEN QUESTIONED ABOUT THE EVENT MR. DANIELS STATED HE HAD FUELLED THE AIRCRAFT TWO WEEKS BEFORE THIS FLIGHT AND HAD HAD TWO INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHTS BEFORE THIS FLIGHT. ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT HE SAID HE ONLY CHECKED ONE FUEL TANK AND FELT HE HAD ADEQUATE FUEL BEFORE DEPARTING LODI AIRPORT TO PICK UP HIS INSTRUCTOR AT MCCALLEN(MCC) . THE AIRCRAFT WAS FUELED AND FLOWN OUT OF THE FIELD A FEW DAYS LATER. MR. TUTTLE STATE HE ESTIMATED THE FUEL ONBOARD BY CALCULATING PUBLISHED FUEL BURN PER HOUR AND PREVIOUS FLIGHT HOURS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
