## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT N67311 DEVERTED INTO SACRAMENTO BECAUSE OF ENGINE PROBLEMS. DURING THE DECENT THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK POWER LINES AND CRASHED APPROMIATELY 2 MILES SOUTH OF THE SACRAMANTO INT'L AIRPORT. A SMALL GRASS FIRE STARTED DUE TO DOWN POWER LINES, BUT WAS QUICKLY EXTINGUISHED. THE AIRCRFAT SUBSTAINED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE. NO INJURIES. ONE PERSON ON BOARD. PILOT STATED THAT HE DEPARTED (EMT) EL MONTE, CA WITH FULL TANKS ENROUTE TO (KSMF) SACRAMENTO METRO AIRPORT. ON LET DOWN HE SWITCHED TANKS AND THE ENGINE QUIT. HE TRIED TO SWITCH TANKS AND RE-START THE ENGINE, BUT WAS TO LOW AND LANDED IN A FIELD SHORT OF THE RUNWAY. AFTER THE LANDING THE PILOT OBSERVED FUEL STAINS ON THE WING. HE STATED THAT HE HAS HAD TROUBLE WITH THE FUEL CAPS AND BELIEVES THIS ONE WAS NOT PROPERLY SECURED AND SIPHON FUEL OUT WHILE HE WAS FLYING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR10LA408](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR10LA408), Aug 16, 2010: Beech V35B (N67311), Sacramento, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power during descent due to fuel exhaustion as a result of the pilot's failure to ensure that the fuel cap was secured during the preflight inspection.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
