## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILTOT W/ ONE PASSENGER ABOARD ATTEMPTED TO DEPART 1ST LAKE. AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT, WIND CONDITIONS WERE LIGHT, THE WATER CONDITIONS WERE CALM, THE DENSITY ALTITUDE WAS HIGH, AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS LOADED NEAR (AND POSSIBLY IN EXCESS OF (TBD)) MAX. GROSS WEIGHT. AFTER LEAVING THE SURFACE OF THE WATER, THE AIRCRAFT CLIMBED SLOWLY, FAILING TO REACH AN ALTITUDE THAT WOULD ALLOW THE AIRCRAFT TO CLEAR TREES AHEAD ALONG THE FLIGHT PATH. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED A SHARP TURN (HIGH DEGREE OF BANK) TO AVOID THE OBSTACLES. THE AIRCRAFT APPEARS TO HAVE STALLED, ROLLED, AND DESCENDED NEARLY VERTICALLY, IMPACTING THE GROUND. THE PILOT WAS FATALLY INJURED, AND THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA10LA431](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA10LA431), Aug 18, 2010: Maxair MU 582 Drifter (N582RH), Old Forge, NY, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to use the full length of the lake, which necessitated a steep turn to avoid obstacles during takeoff that resulted in an accelerated stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
