## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT ARRIVED AT THE AIRPORT APPROX. 6 HOURS PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT, WHERE HE SPENT MOST OF THE TIME RUNNING THE ENGINE UP, CHECKING THE PERFORMANCE. THE ENGINE SOUNDED TO WITNESSES LIKE IT WAS RUNNING ROUGH. FUEL WAS DRAINED UNTIL NO WATER APPEARED IN THE DRAINS, AND THE INJECTORS WERE REMOVED AND CLEANED. THE PILOT THEN TOOK OFF AND MADE TWO FULL STOP AND TAXIBACK LANDINGS. ON THE THIRD TAKE OFF, AS THE AIRPLANE BROKE GROUND , THE POWER CAME BACK AND IT APPEARED AS THOUGH THE PILOT WAS GOING TO LAND ON THE RUNWAY REMAINING, HE THEN ADDED POWER AND COMMENCED A CLIMB. THE AIRPLANE WAS NOTICED IN A STEEP BANK, APPEARING AS THOUGH HE WAS GOING TO RETURN TO THE AIRPORT. THE AIRPLANE THEN DISAPPEARED BEHIND THE TREES, A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD AND A DUST CLOUD WAS SEEN.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA10LA438](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA10LA438), Aug 23, 2010: Piper PA-30 (N8734Y), Douglas, GA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power during takeoff due to fuel contamination. Contributing to the accident was the pilot's inadequate preflight inspection and inadequate maintenance of the fuel system.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
