## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN ENGINE STOPPAGE DUE TO A MECHANICAL INTERRUPTION DURING CRUISE FLIGHT RESULTING IN A FORCED LANDING. ENGINE TEARDOWN REVEALED PARTIAL DESENTIGRATION OF INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVE LIFTER BODIES IN CYLINDER #3. CYLINDER #4 EXHAUST LIFTER BODY ENTIRELY DESENTIGRATED WHILE THE #4 INTAKE LIFTER BODY WAS PARTIALLY DESENTIGRATED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN10LA531](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN10LA531), Sep 9, 2010: Piper PA-28-161 (N3560B), Buchanan, MI, substantial damage. Probable cause: A failure of the engine's No. 3 and No. 4 cylinder valve lifters for undetermined reasons, which resulted in a total loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
