## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT N311U, AN EXPERIMENTAL HOME BUILT MODEL RV-4, WAS FLYING LOW OVER LAKE LANIER, GEORGIA WHEN THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR STRUCK A POWER LINE RESULTING IN THE LANDING GEAR BEING DETACHED FROM THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED ON TO GAINESVILLE AIRPORT (KGVL) AND LANDED ON RUNWAY 23 AND SKIDDED OFF INTO THE GRASS. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE BUT NO INJURIES REPORTED TO THE PILOT. NO OTHER PASSENGERS WERE ON BOARD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA10CA476](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA10CA476), Sep 12, 2010: Goodman Robert Bruce RV-4 (N311U), Gainesville, GA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to see and avoid marked power lines during low-level flight over a lake.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
