## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON SEPTEMBER 15, 2010, AT APPROXIMATELY 16:52 EASTERN TIME, AIRCRAFT N915AT, A BOEING 717-200, CONDUCTED UNDER 14 CFR PART 121, OPERATED BY AIRTRAN AIRWAYS (ZZDA), FLIGHT NUMBER 896, FLYING FROM THE INDIANAPOLIS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KIND) TO THE LAGUARDIA AIRPORT (KLGA), DIVERTED TO PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KPIT) AFTER THE AFT FLIGHT ATTENDANT NOTICED AN ODOR OF SMOKE AND FOUND THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT'S HANDSET HOT TO THE TOUCH (HANDSET: PART NUMBER: 686-1000-002 MANUFACTURER:TELEPHONICS). THE AIRCRAFT RESCUE FIRE FIGHTING (ARFF) UNITS HAD RESPONDED YET WERE NOT UTILIZED. THE FLIGHT CREW'S ACTIONS OR LACK OF ACTIONS DID NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THIS INCIDENT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE CREW OR PASSENGERS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
