## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AT 0332Z (11:32 PM EDT FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2010) CESSNA 172R, N4732R, INBOUND TO ROA ON A NIGHT TRAINING FLIGHT, REPORTED AN UNSAFE NOSE GEAR INDICATION. AN INSTRUCTOR PILOT AND STUDENT WERE ON BOARD. THE INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT FOLLOWED THE EMERGENCY CHECKLIST AND ATTEMPTED TO EXTEND THE GEAR MANUALLY. AFTER SEVERAL UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS, THEY DECIDED TO LAND WITH JUST THE MAINS EXTENDED. THE PILOT SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE AND AT THE LAST MOMENT TURNED OFF THE AIRCRAFT MASTER SWITCH. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED ON RWY 33 AND AFTER EXTENDED ROLL OUT ON THE MAINS THE NOSE CAME DOWN AND THE AIRCRAFT SKIDDED TO A HALT ON THE NOSE SECTION INCLUDING THE NOSE GEAR DOORS. THE AIRCRAFT SUFFERED A PROP-STRIKE AND MINOR DAMAGE TO THE NOSE SECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
