## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT MADE TWO ATTEMPTS TO LAND ON THE 2200-FOOT GRASS AIRSTRIP WITH AN 8 TO 10-KNOT TAILWIND. THE LAST HALF OF THE AIRSTRIP DROPS OFF ABOUT 15 FEET FROM MIDFIELD. ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT TO LAND, HE TOUCHED DOWN ABOUT 3/4 OF THE WAY DOWN THE RUNWAY AND INITIATED A GO-AROUND. AFTER LIFTOFF, HE HIT THE TOP OF A BARBED-WIRE FENCE AT THE TOP OF A SMALL EMBANKMENT. ABOUT 300 FEET FURTHER, HE HIT THE TOP OF ANOTHER BARBED-WIRE FENCE AND LANDED IN AN UN-HARVESTED CORN FIELD. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK AN EROSION DITCH IN THE FIELD, BREAKING OFF THE NOSE GEAR AND ROTATING THE AIRCRAFT 90 DEGREES TO THE FLIGHT PATH, DAMAGING THE RIGHT WING AND REAR FUSELAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN10LA575](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN10LA575), Sep 25, 2010: Piper PA-28-140 (N6484R), Basehor, KS, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's improper touchdown point during landing and his delayed decision to execute a go-around. Contributing to the accident was the pilot's vision being obscured by the rain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
