## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AT 2010 HOURS LOCAL TIME, THE PILOT MADE AN UNEVENTFUL LANDING ON RUNWAY 24 AT THE RICHMOND MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (RID), RICHMOND INDIANA. WHILE TAXING ON TAXIWAY B, A LANDING GEAR INDICATOR LIGHT STARTED TO FLICKER. THE PILOT THEN TOOK HIS EYES OFF THE TAXIWAY TO LOOK DOWN AT THE LIGHT WHEN HE VEERED OFF INTO A DRAINAGE DITCH TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TAXIWAY B. NOTAM HUF 10035/10 LISTED TAXIWAY B AT RID AS BEING CLOSED ON 10/07/2010. RICHMOND MUNICIPAL AIRPORT AUTHORITY DID NOT BARRICADE OR BLOCK OFF TAXIWAY B TO PREVENT AIRCRAFT FROM TAXING DOWN TAXIWAY B. THE ACCIDENT CAUSED THE NOSE LANDING GEAR TO COLLAPSE, THE LOWER RIGHT ENGINE FIRE WALL BUCKLED, WITH DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT GEAR REAR SPAR AND RIGHT WING UPPER SURFACE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11CA015](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11CA015), Oct 8, 2010: Piper PA-32R-300 (N38205), Richmond, IN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's diverted attention to a landing gear indicator light that led to a loss of directional control and subsequent impact with terrain while taxiing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
