## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING TAKEOFF WITH POWER LANDING GEAR WOULD NOT RETRACT, AFTER POSITIVE RATE OF CLIMB, PILOT PUT FLAPS UP, THEN HE NOSED IT OVER TO TRY TO BUILD AIRSPEED, BUT AIRCRAFT KEEP SINKING. PREPARED FOR LANDING A/C VEERED TO THE LEFT THN HIT A 8 FT TALL CHAIN LINK FENCE AND CAME TO REST IN A WATERMELON PATCH AT THE BLANDING YOUTH CORRECTIONAL CENTER. PILOT REPORTED THAT THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING WITH POWER. FURTHER INVESTIGATION ON SITE REVEALED THAT THE FUEL LEVER WAS IN THE OFF POSITION AS REPORTED BY THE PILOT. ALSO THE LANDNG GEAR MOTOR CIRCUIT BREAKER WAS EITHER TRIPPED OR PULLED OUT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR11LA013](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR11LA013), Oct 10, 2010: Beech C24 (N5063M), Blanding, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to attain a climb gradient sufficient to clear the rising terrain, which resulted in his decision to make a forced landing on a road.
