## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

MR. DRAKE WAS ATTEMPTING TO LAND, AND BOUNCED THE AIRCRAFT ON THE GRASS STRIP RUNWAY VERY HARD, THEN APPLIED POWER TO GO AROUND FOR ANOTHER APPROACH. AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY (WHILE CLIMBING OUT),THE AIRCRAFT BANKED LEFT AND LOST ALTITUDE. THEN THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED INTO THE WOODS. AT THIS TIME THE PILOT, MR RONALD DRAKE, IS UNABLE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS CONCERNING THE ACCIDENT. HE IS STILL IN THE HOSPITAL USING A VENTILATOR. THE NTSB HAS BEEN NOTIFIED AND HAS BEEN KEPT UP-TO-DATE CONCERNING THIS ACCIDENT. ANOTHER PILOT, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, HAS OFFERED TO REMOVE THE ENGINE FROM THE AIRPLANE AND PERFORM SOME MAINTENENCE CHECKS, AS WELL AS AN ENGINE RUN. THE NTSB HAS AUTHORIZED HIM TO DO THIS, AND WE ARE AWAITING THE RUN, AND RESULTS.12/17/2010 WE HAVE RECEIVED THE RESULTS OF THE TEARDOWN OF THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE FROM ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^. AFTER A TEARDOWN AND ANALYSES OF THE DIFFERENT COMPONENTS, HE HAS CONCLUDED THAT THIS ENGINE WOULD HAVE PRODUCED FULL RATED POWER AND RPMS WHEN COMMANDED. IN ADDITION, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ HAS INSPECTED THE FLIGHT CONTROLS, RUDDER PEDALS, AND THROTTLE RIGGING AND HAS FOUND THEM (PLURAL) PROPER, WITH APPROPRIATE FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11LA014](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11LA014), Oct 11, 2010: Drake Ronald A Acro Sport 1 (N53DB), Fowlerville, MI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's loss of control during a go-around maneuver following a bounced landing. Contributing to the accident was the pilot's limited experience in the make and model airplane.

## Other reports on N53DB (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 20100604035779I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/20100604035779I), Jun 4, 2010: Ronald A. D ACROSPORT I (N53DB), Water Ford, MI, Minor damage. Aircraft was on landing rollout when it suddenly veared to the right, tipped over on the propeller spinner. Propeller impacted runway and aircraft came to rest…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
