ON DEPARTURE LEG FROM SEBEWAING AIRPORT, 98G, AIRCRAFT ATTEMPTED TO RETURN TO AIRPORT BY MAKING A 180 DEGREE TURN FROM LOW ALTITUDE BUT CRASHED SHORT OF THE RUNWAY. AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED BY FIRE AND BOTH PILOT AND FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR IN THE REAR SEAT WERE KILLED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11FA029](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11FA029), Oct 18, 2010: American Champion 8KCAB (N105AC), Sebewaing, MI, substantial damage, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed and aircraft control following a loss of engine power after takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
