## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

MR. DAVID R. WHITE WAS PILOT IN COMMAND OF A PIPER PA-28-15 AIRCRAFT,REGISTRATION NUMBER N44078, THAT WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AT KECKS AIRPORT (N88) NEAR JULIAN, NORTH CAROLINA ON OCTOBER 28, 2010.MR. WHITE STATED THAT DURING THE APPROACH AND LANDING TO RUNWAY 23, THE AIRCRAFT DEVELOPED A HIGH RATE OF DESCENT ACCOMPANIED BY A SLOW AIRSPEED. THE COMBINATION OF THESE TWO FACTORS RESULTED IN A DISTRACTION THAT CAUSED HIM TO MISJUDGE HIS TOUCHDOWN POINT ON THE RUNWAY.MR. WHITE MADE A HARD LANDING ON AN UPSLOPE PART OF THE TERRAIN PRIOR TO THE THRESHOLD OF THE RUNWAY. RUNWAY 23 AT KECKS AIRPORT IS A 1400 FOOT TURF RUNWAY. RUNWAY 23 HAS POWER LINES LOCATED 1/4 MILE ON THE APPROACH END. RUNWAY 23 ALSO HAS A FENCE NEAR THE APPROACH END. MR. WHITE STATED THAT THESE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE AIRPORT CONTRIBUTED TO THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
