## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON OCTOBER 29, 2010 AT 14:15 HOURS LOCAL THE PILOT OF N8ZT WAS GIVEN INSTRUCTION BY THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL TOWER TO TAXI TO RUNWAY 03. VMC CONDITIONS PREVAILED AND TAXI SURFACE WAS DRY. N8ZT IS A CONVENTIONAL GEAR AIRCRAFT AND WAS OBSERVED AT LEAST ONCE TAXIING WITH TURNS FOR A FRONTAL VIEW SCAN. DURING A LEFT TAXIING TURN NEAR THE HOLD SHORT LINE N8ZT COLLIDED WITH A CIRRUS AIRCRAFT, N876CP THAT WAS STATIONARY AT THE HOLD SHORT LINE AND CONDUCTING A ENGINE RUNUP. THE CIRRUS AIRCRAFT HAD BEEN GIVEN TAXI INSTRUCTIONS SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE N8ZT. THE PILOT OF N8ZT STATED THE SUN WAS IN HIS EYES AT THE TIME AND HE COULD NOT SEE THE OTHER AIRCRAFT AT THE HOLD SHORT LINE. THE PILOT OF N8ZT ALSO STATED HE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES OR THE FLIGHT CONTROLS. THE CIRRUS SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE INCLUDING THE WING SPAR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA11LA043](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA11LA043), Oct 29, 2010: Cirrus Design SR22 (N876CP), Hilton Head Island, SC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The Pitts pilot's inadequate visual lookout and failure to maintain clearance from the Cirrus airplane.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
