## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 10/31/2010 CESSNA N3542V DEPARTED UKIAH AIRPORT (UKI) WITH TWO PASSENGERS ON BOARD AND FLEW TO A PRIVATE DIRT AIRFIELD BRANSCOMB, CA. THE PILOT LANDED THE PLANE APPROXIMATELY ¾ DOWN THE RUNWAY AND BECAUSE OF TAILWIND, WAS MOVING AT A HIGHER THAN NORMAL LANDING SPEED. AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY IS A 700' OVERRUN AREA THAT THE PILOT ENTERED. THE LEFT WING TIP CLIPPED A SMALL FIR TREE CAUSING THE PLANE TO TURN 90 DEGREES SKID A SHORT DISTANCE AND THEN DROP OFF OF AN APPROXIMATELY 4 FOOT HIGH 45 DEGREE EMBANKMENT WHERE IT CAME TO REST AGAINST SEVERAL TREES. THIS WAS THE FIRST DIRT LANDING ATTEMPTED BY THE PILOT WHO ONLY HAD 75 TOTAL HOURS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR11CA035](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR11CA035), Nov 1, 2010: Cessna 172S (N3542V), Branscomb, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance from trees during the landing roll on an unimproved airstrip.

## Other reports on N3542V (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19821113066089I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19821113066089I), Nov 13, 1982: Cessna 150 (N3542V), Scammon, KS, Minor damage. Lost control and veered off runway on landing. Buckled nose gear. Pilot not rated in fixed wing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
