## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT WAS PARKED ON THE PARKING RAMP WEST OF RUNWAY 31L NORTH OF THE MUSEUM OF FLIGHT. PILOT REQUESTED TAXI TO ACTIVE RUNWAY. AFTER BEING CLEARED BY GROUND CONTROL THE PILOT DEPARTED THE RAMP TO THE NORTH. AT THIS POINT HE DID NOT REALIZE HE WAS ON AN ACCESS ROAD THAT IS PARALLEL TO THE TAXI WAY. DURING THE TAXI ON THE ACCESS ROAD THE AIRCRAFT HIT A YIELD TO AIRCRAFT SIGN WITH ITS LEFT WING TIP. THE PILOT REALIZED HE WAS NOT ON THE TAXI WAY AND CONTACTED GROUND CONTROL FOR DIRECTIONS. PILOT DID NOT REPORT HITTING THE SIGN TO GROUND CONTROL. PILOT WAS DIRECTED TO MAKE A 180 DEGREE TURN AND GO BACK TO THE TAXI WAY. PILOT COMPLIED WITH INSTRUCTIONS. WITHOUT EVALUATING HIS AIRCRAFT FOR DAMAGE THE PILOT CONTINUED TO THE ACTIVE RUNWAY AND DEPARTED THE AIRPORT. HE LANDED AT TACOMA NARROWS AIRPORT WHERE HE DISCOVERED THE WING TIP WAS DAMAGED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
