## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE FLIGHT DEPARTED, ABOUT 1515 EDT, FROM DILLANT-HOPKINS AIRPORT KEENE, NH (EEN), VFR AND WAS ON FLIGHT FOLLOWING, TO LONG ISLAND MACARTHUR AIRPORT NY, (ISP), AS PER PRELIMINARY ATC INFORMATION AND RADAR DATA, AND THE ONBOARD GARMIN HAND HELD GPS 396. THE INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE MASS STATE POLICE REPRESENTATIVE (MSPR) STATED THE PILOT INFORMED THEM THAT THE AIRPLANE HAD ENGINE PROBLEMS AT ABOUT 3,000 FEET. THE MORE EXPERIENCED PILOT SEATED IN THE RIGHT CENTER ROW SEAT(#4) SWAPPED POSITION WITH THE PASSENGER SEATED IN THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT(#2), TO ASSIST THE PILOT WITH THE IMMEDIATE PROBLEM. ABOUT TWO MINUTES FROM THE INITIAL ENGINE PROBLEM THE ENGINE LOST TOTAL POWER. AN OPENED FIELD WAS LOCATED AND THEY ELECTED TO LAND AT THAT FIELD. THEY OBSERVED THE TREES AND THE POWER LINES AT THE BEGINNING OF THE OPEN FIELD. THEY WERE ABLE TO CLEAR THE TREES BUT DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH ALTITUDE TO CLEAR THE TOP WIRE RUNNING BETWEEN TWO TOWERS IN FRONT OF THE TREES ALONG THEIR FLIGHT PATH. THE AIRPLANE CAUGHT ON THE TOP WIRE WHICH MADE THE AIRPLANE IMPACT THE GROUND. THE MSPR STATED THAT THERE WERE WITNESSES THAT OBSERVED THE AIRPLANE FLYING LOW, ONE HEARD THE ACCIDENT AIRPLANE'S ENGINE SPUTTERING, AND ANOTHER HEARD THE CRASH FROM THE NEARBY ROAD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA11FA078](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA11FA078), Dec 5, 2010: Cessna U206G (N9742Z), Leverett, MA, substantial damage, 2 fatal. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power due to the fatigue failure of the crankshaft, which resulted from improper tightening of the cylinder hold-down nuts.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
