## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PUBLIC USE AIRCRAFT WAS ON AN AUTHORIZED OBSERVATION MISSION WHEN PILOT REPORTED METAL CLANKING SOUND FROM THE ENGINE AND FALLING OIL PRESSURE. PILOT ELECTED TO MAKE AN OFF AIRPORT EMERGENCY LANDING. WHILE ON APPROACH TO THE LANDING SITE, THE ENGINE VIOLENTLY SEIZED, BENDING THE ENGINE MOUNT. AIRCRAFT COMPLETED LANDING ON A STATE HIGHWAY, AND NO OTHER DAMAGE WAS REPORTED OR OBSERVED.

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19821005069229I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19821005069229I), Oct 5, 1982: Cessna T182 (N9758H), Odessa, TX. Engine RPM started decaying. Oil and cylinder head temperature increasing. Replaced magneto. Bendix 1D3000.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
