## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT WAS ON AN INSTRUCTOR APPROVED SOLO FLIGHT. HE PRACTICED TAKEOFFS AND LANDINGS. DURING THIS PATTERN HE INTENDED TO PRACTICE AN ENGINE OUT APPROACH AND LANDING. HE LOWERED THE GEAR MIDFIELD AND SUBSEQUENTLY REDUCED POWER TO IDLE. ON SHORT FINAL HE REALIZED THAT HE WAS LOW. THROUGH PREVIOUS DISCUSSIONS WITH HIS INSTRUCTOR HE REMEMBERED HIM SAYING THAT A GEAR RETRACTION COULD IMPROVE THE GLIDING DISTANCE AND REDUCE THE SINK RATE. THE STUDENT THEN RETRACTED THE LANDING GEAR. HE FORGOT TO LOWER THE GEAR AGAIN AND SUBSEQUENTLY MADE A GEAR UP LANDING CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO THE PROPELLER AND THE UNDERSURFACE OF THE FUSELAGE. THE STUDENT RECALLS THE GEAR HORN SOUNDING DURING THE LANDING.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
