## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JANUARY 2, 2011 APPROXIMATELY 0900 CENTRAL STANDARD TIME, AN AMERICAN LEGEND AL3, N102PJ, REGISTERED TO SHELL AIR, LLC AND OPERATED BY FOUR WINDS AVIATION, INC, WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED DURING LANDING ROLLOUT ON RUNWAY 35 WHEN THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED SEVERAL TIMES AND DEPARTED THE RUNWAY, STRUCK A CONSTRUTION SIGN, AND FLIPPED UPSIDE DOWN AT AERO COUNTRY AIRPORT (T31) LOCATED IN MCKINNEY, TEXAS. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS (VMC) AND CALM WINDS PREVAILED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THE TRAINING FLIGHT WAS BEING CONDUCTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF 14 CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS (CFR) PART 61 AND PART 91 WITHOUT A FLIGHT PLAN. THE STUDENT PILOT, THE SOLE OCCUPANT ON BOARD, WAS NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED. EXAMINATION OF THE AIRCRAFT AND AIRCRAFT/ENGINE LOGBOOKS REVEALED THAT AIRWORTHINES WAS NOT A FACTOR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11LA142](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11LA142), Jan 2, 2011: American Legend AL3 (N102PJ), McKinney, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's loss of directional control during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
