## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ INADVERTENTLY/INCORRECTLY INSTALLED THE NOSE GEAR CENTERING SPRING ASSEMBLY ATTACHMENT HARDWARE BOLT AND RETAINING NUT (404 322, AN316-4R) 180 DEGREE OPPOSITE ORIENTATION AS SPECIFIED IN THE PIPER SENECA II SERVICE MANUAL, REF. 7-8 ASSEMBLY. THE RESULT WAS A CHAFF/RUB CONTACT OF NUT 404 322 WITH THE PERPENDICULAR ROTATING NOSE LANDING GEAR DOOR TUBE. UPON NOSE GEAR RETRACTION THE NUT GOUGED APPROXIMATELY A 3/4 INCH GROOVE IN THE TUBE RADIUS SURFACE RESTRICTING THE LANDING GEAR FROM A SUBSEQUENT EXTENTION DUE TO INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE WITH THE ROTATING LANDING GEAR DOOR TUBE ASSEMBLY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
