## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT HAD A LONG TAXI FROM FBO TO RWY 10R PIT WHERE RUN-UP WAS INITIATED. DURING RUN-UP RT MAIN GEAR AND STRUT ASSEMBLY SEPARATED FROM A/C DUE TO FIRE. A/C SPUN APPROXIMATELY 180 DEGREES. A/C WAS EVACUATED WITHOUT INJURY TO THE TWO OCCUPANTS ONBOARD. FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BY EMERGENCY PERSONNEL. THE A/C SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO BOTTOM OF RT WING, LANDING GEAR STRUT AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY DUE TO FIRE. WHEEL ASSEMBLY AND STRUT SEPARATED FROM A/C DURING RUN-UP PROCEDURE, THEY WERE FOUND APPROXIMATELY FOUR TO FIVE FEET FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE A/C. THE LONG TAXI TIME AT 1000 ENGINE RPM APPEARS TO HAVE HEATED THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY TO THE POINT OF IGNITING THE BRAKE FLUID. A SAFETY RECOMMENDATION WAS SUBMITTED. SAFETY RECOMMENDATION TO ADD PLACARD ON INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS DECLINED AS IT WAS BELIEVED AN ADEQUATE LEVEL OF SAFETY EXISTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA11LA124](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA11LA124), Jan 24, 2011: Cirrus Design SR22 (N690KY), Pittsburg, PA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s excessive engine rpm and speed during taxi and subsequent braking, which resulted in a wheel brake fire.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
