## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE BEING VECTORED FOR AN ILS APPROACH INTO PWK, CONTROLLERS TOLD PILOT TO CLIMB TO AN ALTITUDE WHICH PUT THE AIRCRAFT INTO THE CLOUDS AND ICING CONDITIONS. THE SHORT TIME THE AIRCRAFT WAS IN THE CLOUDS, THE WINDSHIELD FROSTED OVER. DURING THE FLARE, THE PILOT MISJUDGED THE AIRCRAFT ALTITUDE. REDUCING THE POWER TO IDLE DURING THE FLARE CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO LAND HARD ON A PATCHY SNOW/ICE COVERED RUNWAY.THE AIRCRAFT STARTED SLIDING AND DEPARTED THE RUNWAY COLLAPSING ONE MAIN GEAR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11CA208](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11CA208), Feb 22, 2011: Beech 58 (N12LK), Prospect Heights, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate flare, which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
