AIR TRAFFIC RADAR DATA SHOWED THE AIRCRAFT ON COURSE FOR THE RNAV (GPS) RWY 17 APPROACH DISAPPEARING FROM THE SCREEN AT 800 FEET. THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED INTO A FIELD 2.6 MILES NORTH, NORTH, EAST OF LBX LEFT OF COURSE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED WHEN IT STUCK THE GROUND WITH THE RIGHT WING BREAKING OFF THE WING TIP FUEL TANK STARTING A FLASH FIRE. THE WHEELS STRUCK THE GROUND LEAVING DEEP MARKS IN TO THE GROUND AND BREAKING ALL THREE (3) LANDING GEAR OFF. THE AIRCRAFT TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY 150 FEET, BREAKING THROUGH A FENCE AND TREES COMING TO REST IN A WOODED AREA. UPON HITTING THE TREES THE LEFT WING WAS BROKEN OFF UP TO THE ENGINE AND THE RIGHT TANK WAS BREACHED ADDING MORE FUEL TO THE FIRE. THE AIRCRAFT ALSO ROTATED 180 DEGREES TO RIGHT AFTER HITTING THE RIGHT WING ON A TREE. TWO TO THREE ENGINE MOUNTS WERE BROKEN OFF ON BOTH ENGINES AND THE PROPELLERS HAD SEPARATED FROM THE ENGINES. THE CABIN, FUSELAGE AND TAIL SECTION WERE DISFIGURED. THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT DESTROYED BY FIRE DUE TO THE RAPID RESPONSE BY EMERGENCY CREWS.GROUND MARKS AND CURLED PROPELLERS INDICATED THAT BOTH ENGINES WERE RUNNING ON IMPACT. THE PIC WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED.THE PIC HAS NO MEMORY OF THE ACCIDENT. A WITNESS ON THE HIGHWAY (288) NEXT TO THE ACCIDENT SIGHT STATED THAT HE SAW THE AIRCRAFT FLY OVER THE INTERSTATE VERY LOW WITH THE NOSE IN A STEEP DOWN ATTITUDE AND THE AIRCRAFT IN A RIGHT BANK.
