## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT REPORTED LANDING ON RWY 21 WITH WINDS GUSTY FROM SOUTH, WITHOUT PROBLEMS. AFTER SHORT STAY ON GROUND, PILOT REPORTED SEEING WINDSOCK SHIFT DIRECTIONS, WITH WIND CHANGING FROM SOUTH TO NORTH. PILOT DEPARTED RWY 03 AND GAINED ABOUT 600 FEET AGL AT 60 MPH BY THE DEPARTURE END OF RUNWAY, WHEN HE REPORTED THE AIRPLANE SUDDENLY TURNED INTO A 90 DEGREE BANK TO THE RIGHT (RIGHT WING DOWN) WITHOUT HIS CONTROL INPUT AND STALLED. PILOT LOWERED NOSE SLIGHTLY AND GOT THE WING LEVEL, BUT DID NOT CLIMB, AND LOST 500 FEET IN STRAIGHT AHEAD FLIGHT. JUST BEFORE IMPACT INTO TREES PILOT ATTEMPTED TO TURN LEFT AND EXECUTE 180 DEGREE TURN, BUT NEVER REGAINED CONTROL OF AIRPLANE AND CRASHED INTO TREES .53 MILES FROM END OF RWY 03. POSITION OF AIRPLANE ON IMPACT WAS VERTICAL NOSE DOWN WITH TWISTING OF FUSELAGE NOTED. AIRPLANE DAMAGE APPEARS TO BE TOTAL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR11FA153](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR11FA153), Mar 4, 2011: Volin Kitfox Classic IV (N4374K), Myrtle Creek, OR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's encounter with a windshear/downdraft that exceeded the climb performance capabilities of the airplane.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
