## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT STATED HE WAS MAKING A RUNWAY LANDING AND HAD LOWERED THE GEAR. AS HE APPROACHED THE WIND WAS A STRONGER CROSSWIND THAN ANTICIPATED, SO HE DECIDED TO LAND ON THE WATER. STATED HE FAILED TO DO SECOND LANDING CHECK AND RETRACT GEAR FOR WATER LANDING. THIS RESULTED IN LANDING ON WATER WITH THE LANDING GEAR DOWN; ACFT TOUCHED WATER AND NOSED OVER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11CA216](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11CA216), Mar 7, 2011: Cessna A185F (N434JG), Belle Chase, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to ensure that the landing gear was retracted for the water landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
