## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRMAN DEPARTED THE GLIDER PORT FOR A CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT TO ANOTHER AIRPORT TO RETRIEVE A GLIDER THAT HAD BEEN RECEIVING MAINTENANCE. THE AIRMAN DID NOT REFUEL WHEN HE PICKED UP THE GLIDER. THE FLIGHT BACK TO THE GLIDER PORT TOWING THE GLIDER WAS LONGER THAN THE AIRMAN ANTICIPATED. AFTER HE RELEASED THE GLIDER TO LAND AT THE GLIDER PORT, HE RETURNED TO THE GLIDER PORT TO LAND. WHILE ON BASE LEG, THE ENGINE FAILED FROM FUEL EXHAUSTION. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND SHORT OF THE RUNWAY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
