## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING A NORMAL LANDING ON RUNWAY 9R THE NOSE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED AT LANDING TOUCH DOWN DUE TO FAILURE OF STRUT TUBE ABOVE A WELDED JOINT. THE PILOT REPORTED THE COLLAPSE TO BE GRADUAL UNTIL TOTAL FAILURE AND THE AIRCRAFT EXITED THE RUNWAY TO THE RIGHT. THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY MODIFIED BY EXTENDING ITS LENGTH 12 INCHES ON EACH SIDE TO INCREASE ITS EFFECTIVENESS DURING LANDING AND DECREASE THE LOAD ON THE NOSE GEAR.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
