## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

JASON MALONEY DEPARTED REPUBLIC AIRPORT IN FARMINGDALE, NY AND FLEW WESTBOUND ALONG THE SOUTH SHORE LINE. APPROXIMATELY 14 MILES EAST OF JOHN F. KENNEDY AIRPORT (JFK), MR. MALONEY ESTABLISHED RADIO CONTACT WITH JFK TOWER AND WAS APPROVED TO OPERATE AT OR BELOW 500 FEET ABOVE THE WATER IN UNCONTROLLED AIRSPACE. AS MR. MALONEY GOT CLOSER TO JFK, HE ASKED THE CONTROLLER IF LANDING ON THE BEACH IS ALLOWED. MR. MALONEY WAS ADVISED THAT THE BEACHES ARE PUBLIC AND CAN ONLY BE USED IN AN EMERGENCY. SHORTLY AFTER, MR. MALONEY INFORMED THE CONTROLLER THAT HIS ENGINE MIGHT BE RUNNING ROUGH AND THAT HE WAS GOING TO MAKE A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING. IN MR. MALONEY'S NEXT TRANSMISSION, HE STATED THAT HE HAD A SICK PASSENGER AND LANDED ON THE BEACH WITHOUT DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. SINCE THIS INCIDENT, THE ENGINE HAS BEEN INSPECTED AND FOUND TO BE OPERATING NORMALLY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
