ON APRIL 13, 2011, A CESSNA 172S, N2468Z REGISTERED TO VL AVIATION LLC, WAS DOING TOUCH AND GO LANDINGS AT ALBERT WHITTED AIRPORT IN ST PETERSBURG, FLORIDA. WHILE PERFOMING THE TOUCH AND GOES THE STUDENT PILOT LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED RUNWAY 36 TO THE LEFT AND CROSSED RUNWAY 25 AND WENT OVER A SEA WALL INTO THE BAY. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED AND THE STUDENT PILOT WAS UNINJURED. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED FROM THE SAME AIRPORT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA11CA244](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA11CA244), Apr 13, 2011: Cessna 172S (N2468Z), Saint Petersburg, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the student pilot to maintain directional control during a touch-and-go landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
