## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING CLIMBOUT AT ABOUT 600 FEET THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND LOST POWER. THE PILOT BEGAN EMERGENCY PROCEDURES BUT COULD NOT GET THE ENGINE TO RUN AT FULL POWER. THE PILOT FOUND A BULIVARD WITH A WIDE MEDIAN AND ATTEMPTED AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON THE MEDIAN. AFTER TOUCHDOWN THE AIRCRAFT HAD TO MUCH SPEED TO STOP IN TIME TO AVOID A CROSS STREET WHICH HAD A MINVAN CROSSING AT THE TIME. THE AIRCRAFT COLLIDED WITH THE MINIVAN CAUSING SUBSTANTAIL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. INVESTIGATION REVEILED THE LEFT WING FUEL TANK WAS LOW ON FUEL CAUSING A DEPLETION OF FUEL TO THE ENGINE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11FA292](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11FA292), Apr 16, 2011: Piper PA-22/20 (N3621Z), New Orleans, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate in-flight fuel management, which resulted in fuel starvation and a total loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
