PILOT REPORTED ORBITING AK77 FOR "15 TO 20 MINUTES" IN ORDER FOR HIM TO "GET THE FEEL" OF THE AIRCRAFT AND BECOME CONFIDENT IT WAS SAFE FOR THE INTENDED FLIGHT. PILOT REPORTED THAT SHORTLY AFTER TURNING SOUTH FOR LAKE HOOD, OIL TEMPERATURE BEGAN TO RISE AND ENGINE POWER BEGAN TO DECREASE FORCING AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON THE TUNDRA OF FORT GREELY 9.2 MILES FROM AK77. AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED A PROP STRIKE AND DAMAGE TO THE LANDING GEAR. PILOT REPOTED HAVING NO PREVIOUS TIME IN THIS MAKE/MODEL. THIS SOFTWARE WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY LESS TIME THAN ONE HOUR IN MAKE/MODEL.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
