## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT INITIALLY OVERFLEW THE 2000 FOOT SOD RUNWAY (ELEVATION 2800 FEET) TO CHECK THE WIND DIRECTION/VELOCITY. THE WINDS AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WERE GUSTY AND A RIGHT CROSSWIND. THE PILOT ELECTED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 02. THE PILOT STATED THAT HIS AIRSPEED AT TOUCHDOWN WAS APPROXIMATELY 90 MPH. HE TOUCHED DOWN WITH APPROXIMATELY 800 FEET OF RUNWAY REMAINING. WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKES HE STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT SHOWED NO SIGNS OF SLOWING DOWN DUE TO THE SLIPPERY GRASS. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE END OF THE RUNWAY HITTING A FENCE POST, CROSSING A SMALL DITCH AND ROAD. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN A FIELD APPROXIMATELY 50-75 FEET FROM THE END OF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA11CA273](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA11CA273), Apr 30, 2011: Cessna 172M (N12839), Suchez, GA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the pilot to initiate a go-around and his excessive airspeed on the final landing approach.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
