## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRMAN HAD JUST COMPLETED HIS REQUIRED 5 HOURS OF INSTRUCTION IN THE PIPER COMMANCHE, AND TOOK HIS WIFE FOR A LOCAL PLEASURE FLIGHT. UPON RETURN TO LAKE HAVASU (HII), THE GEAR WAS SELECTED TO THE DOWN POSITION. AT THAT TIME, THE GEAR UP LIGHT EXTINGUISHED, BUT THE GEAR DOWN LIGHT FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE PILOT CALLED THE FBO, AND WAS ABLE TO SPEAK WITH THE A&P MECHANIC VIA RADIO. THE PILOT TROUBLESHOT THE GEAR FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR AND ULTIMATELY LANDED GEAR UP. MINOR SKIN DAMAGE AND PROP DAMAGE OCCURRED, AND THE AIRCRAFT REMAINED ON THE RUNWAY. THE MECHANIC PUT THE AIRCRAFT ON JACKS AND DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM. HE STATED THAT ABOUT 1 IN 30 TIMES THE GEAR WILL EXTEND WHEN SELECTED TO THE DOWN POSITION. HE IS CURRENTLY TROUBLESHOOTING TO DETERMINE WHETHER IT IS THE SWITCH OR THE DOWN RELAY. PHOTOGRAPHS AND MAINTENANCE RECORDS ON FILE AT FSDO.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
